One of our nature projects last week, inspired by this post & this post, as well as this book, was putting out materials for our backyard birds to help them make their nests. We set up a buffet of yarn, moss, dried leaves & raffia and mud.
Since then, we discovered some birds have built a nest in the bamboo; we're still determining if its blackbirds or blue jays taking up residence in there. And we haven't gotten a close enough look to see if any of our materials made it in. But I'd like to think they did....
There's another kind of nesting taking place around here too. My sister is expecting a new little chick in the next couple of weeks. And she's planning a home birth right here in my nest! So I've been busy preening and preparing my home for this most sacred event, as well as planning her Mother Blessing ceremony for this weekend. More on that to come!

Your sister is looking fabulous! What a beautiful photo! Can't wait to see her this weekend...
I think that the idea of helping birds make nests is just so cool! I think that this will have to be an upcoming project that we do together.
