Today's My Lucky Day

Yesterday I took Sage to the doctor for pink eye. Both of her sweet eyes were swollen, red and pouring all kinds of goop. On the way out, she got to pick a sticker from the basket. Right on top lay a shiny Dora and Diego sticker (to my horror, she really loves Dora). And despite the fact that she felt really bad, she happily stuck that sticker to her jacket, looked up at me all icky eyed, but smiling, and announced: "Today's my lucky day!" I couldn't really see how such a small, ordinary thing could bring her so much pleasure that it transformed a pretty rotten day into a 'lucky' one. But for the rest of the day, she showed everyone in our household that sticker; and each time she proclaimed "today's my lucky day!"
Today, I found myself particularly grumpy for no particular reason. Wanting to do something for me, I headed out to the farm, where I was surrounded by gorgeous locally-grown, organic produce. (If you read much of this blog, you know I have a thing for fresh produce; and this is the cream of the crop!) It had been so long since I'd visited the farm, I'd forgotten how truly fabulous the selection is. First off, I reached for a bunch of fresh-from-the-earth dill and there, in the delicate green fluff, was a bright red ladybug. I smiled and proclaimed, "Today's my lucky day!"

And just like that, things shifted. I filled my basket, making a bouquet of bok choy, swiss chard, red leaf lettuce, arugula, leeks and sorrell. I left believing I'd struck gold! Back home, I got to work prepping my leafy green treasures for the week, concocting homemade vegetable soup and - best of all - feeling genuinely blessed.
Many thanks to my sweet Sage, and that lucky ladybug, for the reminder that the true treasures are usually hiding in the most ordinary of moments and things.

SORRELL!!

I was at the farm on Friday and was dazzled at how FANTASTIC everything is right now. They are really at their peak right now. I hope you got some spinach because it was GORGEOUS!!!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who takes pictures of her produce.

Such a beautiful sentiment. The small things that bring us joy, those really are the moments that make us feel so lucky to be where we are.
