After a rainy night, we headed out early in the morn for a flower-collecting walk around the house; our mission was to gather "toppings" for mud pies. Then we sat down in the mud and got to work...
While these colorful pies baked in the emerging sun, we took our stash inside for some flower pounding on cloth napkins...
With a lot of flowers still left, we pressed a bunch between sheets of paper and placed them under a large stack of books to discover on another rainy day (the plan is to make bookmarks and botanical pictures with those). The rest I cut up into tiny pieces and we put them in a small jar, then filled it with alcohol to steep into our very own wildflower perfume.
This week, the girls also made wildflower coloring books found here, browsed Florida native wildflower field guides and enjoyed a few favorite flowery reads, including Planting a Rainbow. Coming soon... part 2: bees

These are such beautiful ideas for your beautiful girls!! You've inspired me to "dig up" the mud pie supplies again. Nice job mama.
Great ideas! Thanks for the tip on Florida Wildflower Foundation :) Great site.
