Fall is Coming!
My favorite season is almost here... fall officially kicks off this Sunday, September 22, with the Autumnal Equinox. It's one of the few days where we all share the same amount of daylight throughout the world, and the day and night hours are about equal (12 hours each). From then on, in the northern hemisphere, the days will gradually grow shorter than the nights, until the Winter Solstice in December.
Fall, to me, is a time of preparation, of gathering our harvests, and counting our blessings. It's a time to celebrate family, and nourish community. In my nest, on the autumn (and spring) equinox - as well as the winter and summer solstices - we welcome and honor the arrival of a new season with a small (just-our-family) celebration. Last year's welcome fall party was such a hit, it will be hard to beat. But I have some goodies in mind...
It will be a morning affair this year, with the equinox falling on a Sunday, so the menu includes pumpkin waffles, breakfast popcorn, and hot apple cider. We'll be crafting our own painted paper fall leaves using watercolors and these. And we'll spend some time resetting our nature table for fall, and flipping through seasonal books that will magically appear overnight, along with some autumn decorations. Pictures to come!
How do you celebrate the arrival of fall?
