I Am Grateful For...Magazines

28 :: Magazines
I have a thing for magazines. I just love them! I live for the days when a new magazine comes in the mail. I wait until the girls are asleep, then snuggle into my favorite reading space with a blanket and a cup of hot tea, and lose myself in the slick, colorful pages. Sometimes I read every page, in order; other times I skip around, just looking at the photos or flip through to find the cover story. Decorating magazines are my favorites, especially Domino and Cottage Living. And I love "idea shopping" from catalogs like Ballard Designs and Pottery Barn. I also enjoy lifestyle, crafting, food, women's health and parenting magazines. And the diverse celeb mags of Martha Stewart, Oprah and Rachel Ray. Oh, and Real Simple is a favorite. (I know, I said I have an issue.)
I take comfort in knowing it's not just me... My mother is as crazy about magazines as I am. I have been known to hide new issues before she comes over so they don't mysteriously disappear. She once said she knew how much I loved her when I lent her an unopened, favorite magazine for a long plane trip. We share our publications primarily so we can read more for less!
I think the love of magazines might be genetic, as Selby has taken to them already. She gets National Geographic Kids and Highlights in the mail, and of course lots of great children's catalogs (which I love too!) like Magic Cabin. She told me in the car today that she wanted a new play kitchen for Christmas. "You already have a kitchen," I responded. "Yes, Mom, but not like the one in the catalog!" Ah yes... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

I LOVE magazines too! I'm so sad that some of my favorites are gone - ME Home Companion, Cottage Living, O at Home, and now Country Home. I used to get so excited when I'd get a new one in the mail and I would save it for just the right moment too - when the house was quiet and dark and cozy.
